Laboratory of oceanographical chemistry
Description
Type of entity Platform
Main activity The Laboratory of Analytical Assets (LAMA) in Brest, specialised in marine chemistry, is one of the three chemistry laboratories of the IRD.
The LAMA operates at the request of IRD's oceanographic teams and its scientific partners. Its role is to prepare, organise and carry out at sea and/or on land all tasks related to the chemical analysis of seawater samples.
The laboratory has the particularity of carrying out chemical analyses at sea, during oceanographic campaigns, but also on land, in its premises in Brest.

The IRD is a key French player on the international development agenda. It is based on an original model: equitable scientific partnerships with developing countries, primarily those in the intertropical regions and the Mediterranean area.
Website IRD Délégation Régionale Ouest
The IRD's Brest office is home to around 40 people. In addition to its role as a metropolitan base for IRD teams, it is intended to contribute to the reception and training of scientific executives from partner countries and institutions in the South.
IRD's scientific activities in Brittany are exclusively focused on marine sciences. Tropical climate, offshore and coastal oceanography, modelling, underwater acoustics, sclerochronology and fisheries are the research themes developed there.
Research units from the IRD and its partners based in France, in the French overseas departments and territories and abroad also receive technical support, particularly for the preparation of oceanographic campaigns.
Website UAR IMAGO
The IMAGO Support and Research Unit is a unit of the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). Its mission is to
- To meet the physico-chemical analysis and methodological development needs of IRD units and their partners. The laboratories are competent in the fields of water, soil, plant and marine chemistry;
- To ensure the operational management of observation networks in geophysics and oceanography;
- Manage and implement, by integrating with the scientific teams during missions at sea, the common on-board oceanographic equipment;
- To enhance the value of in situ oceanic observations through specific actions in conjunction with the UMRs concerned.
